POCATELLO, ID (July 2026) – NeighborWorks® Pocatello is pleased to announce that Peter Taylor has joined the organization as its new Executive Director, beginning his role earlier this month. Taylor brings more than twenty years of leadership experience in affordable housing, cooperative finance, and community development across both New Zealand and the United States.
Taylor’s background includes leading Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Christchurch, New Zealand, and Anchorage, Alaska. In both communities, he worked in complex environments where the need for housing was urgent, whether due to natural disasters or ongoing shortages. His experience goes beyond building homes. It includes strengthening organizations, building local partnerships, and helping communities move toward long term stability and resilience.
“NeighborWorks Pocatello sits right at the center of the work I have dedicated my career to,” said Taylor. “There is affordable housing delivery, federal compliance, and a real development pipeline ahead. It’s the kind of organizational challenge I’ve built a career around.”
Throughout his career, Taylor has focused on housing as a starting point, but not the end goal. His work has included home construction, homeownership programs, and building funding strategies that support long term sustainability. At the same time, he has worked closely with local governments, lenders, and community partners to help create stronger, more stable communities where people can succeed.
“We are very excited to have Peter join us at NeighborWorks Pocatello as our Executive Director,” said Veneta Wellard, President of NeighborWorks Pocatello’s Board of Directors. “Peter was selected not only for his exceptional leadership skills and vision, but also for a deep alignment with our mission, values and commitment to Pocatello and our surrounding communities by continuing to provide affordable housing and developing homeownership. I believe that he will be a true asset to NeighborWorks Pocatello and to our whole community.”
Taylor said the organization’s current momentum played a big role in his decision to take the position. He pointed to strong local partnerships, an active development pipeline, and opportunities to expand both housing and community focused work in the years ahead. He also emphasized the importance of looking at the bigger picture when it comes to community development, including economic stability, access to resources, and long-term neighborhood health.
“Housing security is the foundation everything else is built on,” Taylor said. “When people have a stable place to live, it impacts families, the workforce, and the long-term health of a community. It is a privilege to step into this role and continue building on the strong work already underway.”
Outside of his professional life, Taylor is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys skiing, trail running, and mountaineering. He currently serves as President of the Mountaineering Club of Alaska and is relocating to Pocatello with his partner. He shared that access to the outdoors in this region was a meaningful part of the move and that they are looking forward to becoming part of the community.
“I recognize that NeighborWorks Pocatello is a treasured contributor to the Southeast Idaho community,” Taylor said. “It is an honor to follow those who have served before me. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to deliver on such an important mission for this community and work alongside the dedicated volunteers and coworkers who make all this possible.”
NeighborWorks Pocatello will host a public meet and greet to welcome Taylor on September 10, 2026, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the organization’s office located at 206 North Arthur Avenue in Pocatello. Community members, partners, and stakeholders are invited to attend and connect with NeighborWorks Pocatello’s new Executive Director.
NeighborWorks Pocatello is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for people to live in safe, healthy, and affordable homes while strengthening neighborhoods throughout Southeast Idaho.
